St. Raphael Catholic School believes religion is the center of our school. The curriculum is designed to use the Bible for discussion and study of Salvation history. It also introduces them to Catholic Tradition, with an emphasis on the sacraments, the lives of the saints, and the Mass. It is our goal to help develop faith in the life of each student so that they can be good stewards of the individual gifts God has given them.
St. Raphael Catholic School believes God created the universe in an ordered way. Our curriculum is used to help students develop problem solving strategies and to understand the relationships between numbers, sets, and logic. It is our goal to help students recognize the relationship between the concepts of math and created order.
St. Raphael Catholic School believes through the study of reading, listening, speaking, spelling, writing, and grammar, we give students opportunities to develop oral and written communication skills. By developing these skills, students will be confident in sharing their faith, public speaking, and in leadership roles.
St. Raphael Catholic School believes our students must be educated in the world around them and the different peoples and cultures that God has created. As they learn of the world and society in which they live, the students will understand their roles as Christian citizens of a democracy. This will prepare them for active participation in civic, cultural, and service-oriented activities in the local and broader world.
St. Raphael Catholic School believes appreciation of, and respect for, God’s creation directs our science curriculum. Through the use of our Christian values, the science curriculum follows the concepts, basic facts, and scientific processes of physical, earth, space, and life science. Through stimulation of curiosity and guided use of the scientific process to learn and to solve problems, the student will recognize the “hand of God” in all of creation.
St. Raphael Catholic School believes Physical Education is an integral part of the total educational process. Each student has the right to learn about the human body, overall health and wellness, and personal fitness and activity. We teach students that their body is God’s greatest gift, and educate them how to value, cherish and utilize their unique ability to glorify God. Physical education provides students the opportunity to participate in activities that promote sportsmanship, peer relationships and social emotional problem solving skills that they can carry over into their life and leisure activities.
St. Raphael Catholic School believes it is our duty to teach students how to use technology responsibly, safely, and virtuously as a child of God. We believe it is important to maintain a good balance between direct teacher instruction and technology usage. Teachers integrate technology in each subject area to provide equal opportunity for all students and an enriched learning experience. We use technology as a tool for targeted practice and differentiated instruction. We teach students how to be proficient with current technology skills.
St. Raphael Catholic School believes that it is important to teach and provide students with the opportunity to express their unique gifts and talents that God has given them. Students will learn and express themselves through drawing, painting, sculpting, collages, and other forms of art. We will educate students on the fundamentals and history of art while creating their own artwork.
St. Raphael Catholic School believes through the study of music, we will help students possess basic music literacy, appreciate and evaluate music, and understand the interrelationship between music, history, and other arts. We will help students understand and appreciate music as an expression of many cultures, and participate in the creative process to express emotions and feelings. Students will be able to function positively as an individual and in a large group, understand concert etiquette, and display performance skills. Additionally, we will help students use music as an expression of faith in liturgical music.
